History
Starting in 1985, the foundation has made a lot of history.
The Foundation’s Beginning
PSSBSF started in 1985 by Principal H.D. Pritchard and Len Cox at Penticton Secondary, along with original Foundation board members George Gay, Sue Irvine, Dr. Bob Offer, Edgar Dewdney, Betty Evans and Al Rowe. Within 5 years, they reached their goal to raise $100,000.00 for the benefit of graduating students at PSS.
Originally, Penticton Secondary students were the only recipients. The Foundation had the foresight to plan funding for Princess Margaret Secondary School, which was added in 2004 when it became a graduating school.
- In 1985, the Foundation gave a $1000 award to one student at Penticton Secondary.
- Thirty-eight years later, more than $4.5 million has been distributed to students.
- At the 2023 convocation ceremonies, more than $450,000.00 was presented to graduating applicants at both Penticton Secondary schools.
Hard work, vision and determination on the part of the original Foundation and dedication of subsequent board members, coupled with the generosity of the community has led to a remarkable success story, helping thousands of students with their post-secondary goals.
