Judy Howell passed away on June 28, 2023, a very sad day for the Penticton Secondary Schools Bursary & Scholarship Foundation, and so many others in our local community whose lives were touched through her years of dedicated service to the students of Penticton.

Judy had an impressive 30-year career as a language educator and counsellor at Pen Hi and was an integral part of the initial creation of the Penticton Secondary Schools Bursary & Scholarship Foundation. For over three decades Judy has been donating her time, expertise and support to drive the continued growth of the Foundation; and most recently was the Vice President of the Foundation Board as well as the Chair of the Pen Hi selection committee. Judey devoted countless hours to evolve and grow the financial assistance available to graduates from both high schools in Penticton as they pursue their post-secondary and vocational educational goals. She worked with donors, student applications and Pen Hi staff on the selection, presentation and distribution of the Pen Hi bursaries and scholarships – a complex process every year. Her passionate belief in the power of education came to life through all she did in support of the Foundation and students.

Pen Hi’s 2023 graduates included 106 recipients receiving 206 awards totaling $310,000 from the Foundation and its donors and Princess Margaret’s 2023 graduates included 54 recipients receiving 108 awards totaling approximately $145,000 from the Foundation and its donors.

Judy will be missed by all, and the Foundation has lost a mentor and a friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Judy’s husband, Don, and her family.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Judy at the Trade & Convention Centre on Saturday, August 19th at 2:00 pm.
